The treatment Messi is getting from PSG fans could push him closer to a Barcelona return

Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi has suffered more humiliation at the hands of PSG supporters before and after the club’s loss to Lyon in Ligue 1 which could tip the scales and see him re-join Barcelona at the end of his contract.

Messi looking to make a decision on his future

Messi is currently at a crossroads, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the 2022/23 season and the options of renewing with the French Champions, returning to the club of his youth, Barcelona, or picking an entirely new adventure.

All signs seem to be pointing towards a return to the Blaugrana after the latest episode of PSG fans expressing their displeasure with the 35-year-old Argentine.

At the start of the game between PSG and Lyon, Messi’s name was booed when it was read by the stadium announcer and it was the only Les Parisien name to receive that response.

Messi still at war with PSG fans

Following the loss, Messi did not wait to greet the fans, and walked straight down the tunnel after the final whistle as boos continued to ring out at the Parc des Prince.

Messi has faced an uphill battle to get the PSG fans on his side, and his apparent defeat in that battle could be the deciding factor that drives him back into the arms of Barcelona.

Despite scoring 18 goals and assisting 17 more in 33 games in all competitions this season, Messi has still earned the anger of the PSG supporters after the club failed to progress beyond the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League for the second season in a row.

PSG claim that they are doing all they can to tie the World Cup winner to a longer deal and Messi himself has not commented on rumours of his imminent departure, but every home game that passes seems to push the Argentine closer to the exit door.
