Manchester United's young winger will miss the next few weeks of action through injury

Manchester United have revealed the sad news that winger Alejandro Garnacho will be out of action for a few weeks owing to the injury he sustained in their 0-0 draw against Southampton in the Premier League.

Garnacho injured against Southampton

Garnacho was on the end of a poor tackle by Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters in the closing stages of the game and had to be taken off despite having come on as a substitute himself.

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag tried to downplay the gravity of the injury, but the writing was on the wall when Garnacho was spotted leaving Old Trafford on crutches and with an ankle cast.

It was revealed, however, that the 18-year-old’s injury was more serious than first feared and that he will miss Manchester United’s next few games, also shattering his dreams of making his international debut despite being called up for the Argentine national team ahead of next week’s international break.

In addition to missing both of Argentina’s friendly games against Panama and Curacao, Garnacho is also set to miss Manchester United’s UEFA Europa League round of 16 second-leg against Real Betis as well as the FA Cup tie against Fulham and Premier League games against Newcastle and Brentford.
