Fans on social media have trolled the controversial Brazilian star after comparing his World Cup heartbreak to losing a family member.

The World Cup is undoubtedly the biggest trophy in football. For what is widely regarded as the 'holy grail' in the sport, it’s no surprise to see players and national teams, express disappointment in the best way possible after a failed quest in getting their hands on the iconic 30,875 Carats gold trophy.

The 2022 edition of the FIFA World Cup held in Qatar saw Argentina unseat France to win the trophy for the third time in their history.

However, for all the controversies surrounding last December’s showpiece, the tournament delivered as promised and even exceeded expectations having witnessed incredible upsets in Qatar.

And while players teams have previously expressed their disappointment in their team’s failures to lift the trophy, one player has now returned to the spotlight over his comments on his team’s latest shortcomings at football’s greatest showpiece.

Richarlison compares World Cup failure to losing a family member

Selecao forward Richarlison might have gone a bit too far with his explanation of the World Cup failure.

When asked about how disappointed he was with Brazil's exit from the December showpiece he said: 

“It was a blow, I don't know. I think it's worse than losing a family member.” via ESPN Brasil.

“To this day, when I watch videos on my social networks, it makes me sad. But we have to move on. I'm still young, I think I still have one or two World Cups to go. 

“I will keep working hard so that things start to flow again, the goals start to come out, which is what I know how to do on the field." he added.

Richarlison scored a sensational goal for Brazil against Serbia

Richarlison was a mainstay for Brazil at the last edition of the FIFA World Cup netting thrice, including a spectacular bicycle kick against Serbia in the group stage that was awarded by FIFA as the Goal of the tournament.
