He described himself as "bullet-proof and iron-clad" during his pre-match press conference at the FIFA World Cup.

The 37-year-old appears to have burnt bridges with the club following the clear-the-air interview which broke the Internet just before the World Cup.

However, following criticisms that have trailed the interview, the Portuguese star has reacted for the first time.

Ronaldo asks the media to back off

Ronaldo has since joined his international teammate for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, his fifth appearance at the global showpiece.

Ronaldo has asked the media to back off.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Portugal's opening game against Ghana on Thursday, Ronaldo threatened to be "upset" with the media who once again brought up the topic as he went on to say he wears an "Iron-suit".

"The atmosphere is excellent, no problems, we are completely focused," Ronaldo told the media via Sports NDTV.

"You can help by not talking about me. “Stop asking my teammates about me. Ask them about the World Cup. I don't care what other people think. I speak when I want to. I am bulletproof. I wear an iron suit."

Ronaldo is playing in his fifth World Cup for Portugal.

"If you ask other players about Cristiano Ronaldo I would be upset. If you want to ask him about the World Cup and the team, I would like you to do that."

Ronaldo ready for Ghana

On the World Cup in Qatar, the former Real Madrid and Juventus forward confirmed that he is fit and ready to take on the world.

Cristiano Ronaldo is fit and raring to go against Ghana.

"I feel great I have recovered from my injury," he added. "I am ready to start the World Cup in the best possible way and help my team to reach our objectives. I feel fantastic."

"The best generation of players will win the tournament. I believe this is the best generation. It is a young team with a mixture of ages, fantastic to watch."

Ronaldo was not a part of the Portuguese team that thrashed the Super Eagles of Nigeria 4-0 in their final pre-World Cup game in Lisbon.
