The draw for the male cricket teams has placed Team Ogun in Group B for the T-20 format, alongside Zamfara and Kaduna states.

Ahead of the commencement of the cricket events at the 22nd National Sports Festival, "Gateway Games 2025," Team Ogun's male cricket captain, Sesan Adedeji, has voiced strong confidence in his team's chances of clinching a gold medal.

Speaking ahead of their opening matches, Adedeji highlighted the rigorous preparation undertaken by the Ogun State contingent.

The team held two separate training camps in the lead-up to the festival, which Adedeji believes has boosted their morale and readiness to compete at the highest level.

He affirmed that the team is eager and prepared for their opening clash against a Northern state team.

“The team’s preparation ahead of the National Sports Festival has given us a morale booster to aim for the gold medal, and we are eager to rub shoulders with our counterparts from other states,” he said.

The cricket competition is set to begin today, Tuesday, with Team Ogun's male team facing Team Kaduna in the T-20 format. The cricket events at the festival will feature three distinct formats: the fast-paced T-20, the One Day International (ODI), and the exciting six-a-side matches.

The cricket oval at the MKO Abiola Stadium has undergone upgrades, courtesy of a partnership between the Ogun State Cricket Association, the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), and private sponsors FSK Nigeria LTD, providing three dedicated pitches to accommodate each format.

The official draw for the male cricket teams has placed Team Ogun in Group B for the T-20 format, alongside Zamfara and Kaduna states. In the ODI competition, they will compete in Group C against Delta and Imo states.

For the six-a-side format, the Ogun men's team finds themselves in Group B, pitted against familiar T-20 poolmates Kaduna, as well as Oyo, Kwara, and Edo states.

Meanwhile, Team Ogun's female team faces Ebonyi and Gombe in Group B of the T-20 competition. In the ODI series, they will battle Edo and Kaduna. The six-a-side format sees the Ogun women drawn in Group B alongside Edo, Lagos, Kogi, and Akwa Ibom.
