NCF unveils plans for National Cricket League

The President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), Uyi Akpata, has revealed plans for the federation to have national leagues.

Akpata disclosed this to Pulse Sports at the ongoing NCF Women’s Invitational Tournament.

Nigeria defeated Sierra Leone in the opening game of the NCF Women’s Invitational Tournament.

The third edition of the five-country tournament started on Monday at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) Cricket Oval, Lagos.

Akpata said that the National Women's Cricket players will be on a payment contract.

He added that their plans included having national leagues for both male and female in the county as well as a challenge state league.

He said, "We have the South-South Women’s League, which is taking place, and 90% of the players are here. There are like eight teams participating, and there are regional leagues.

"Should there be a national league for male and female one? Yes those things are in the pipeline and we have a loaded calendar, we have a brand that Cricket is now on and we have partners in place. Female national players will start to be on contract with the NCF"

Nigeria had earlier defeated Sierra Leone with six wickets, and the team processed 67 runs from 14 overs on Monday.

Leke Oyede's team continued with their impressive performance on day two as they defeated Cameroun on Tuesday by seven wickets.
