Peter Aho is among the seven Nigerian Sports stars who hold Guinness World Record.

In a bilateral series against Sierra Leone in Lagos in 2021, bowler Peter Aho produced the astounding statistics of 3.4-1-5-6, including a hat-trick, to completely shred the opposition's batting order and give his team the series victory.

This feat made him one of the seven Nigerian sports stars who hold a Guinness World Record.

Pulse Sports reports on seven Nigerian sports stars who hold Guinness World Records after Hilda Effiong Bassey, known as Hilda Baci, officially surpassed the current Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual after cooking for more than 87 hours, 45 minutes, a record set by India's Lata Tondon in 2019.

Aho revealed how his cricket journey started, saying that he started with table tennis before cricket called him.

The University of Benin student added that his friends made him to focus more on cricket.

He said, “I have been a lover of sports since childhood, but then I used to play table tennis and compete in 100m sprints in athletics, until I was introduced to cricket.

“Cricket was reintroduced to my school, Scholars Imperial Education Centre in Benin City, Edo State after 10 years of no cricket activities. Because of the previous success of the game in our school, our principal compelled all the boys to participate.

“After a term of playing cricket in school, I had to focus more on the game because most of my friends were already playing well, so I knew I had to be serious to play the game.”

Guinness World Record Journey

In October 2021, he recorded six wickets for five runs in 3.4 overs against Sierra Leone to earn a place among the greats at the Bilateral T20 Series at the University of Lagos cricket oval.

Aho became the one of the bowler from Nigeria to take five wickets and a hat-trick in a T20I game.

Peter Aho holds the record for best bowling figures in T20Is, claiming six wickets for five runs against Sierra Leone in 2021.

India pacer Deepak Chahar is at number two, picking up six wickets for seven runs against Bangladesh in 2019.

Uganda bowler Dinesh Nakrani holds the third position, taking six wickets for seven runs against Lesotho in 2021.

He also recorded the greatest bowling statistics ever in a T20I game by taking six wickets for just five runs.

He said that the record has surrounded him with respect and inspired him to work harder to maintain the excellent standards.

He said, "For the record, i will say, it has given me respect and has made me want to do better to keep the standards high, I feel with a better publication, i would have gotten better opportunities.

"Like government recognition and opportunities to play for professional teams outside Nigeria."
