CRICKET Oyede confident of his team's performance, eye Gold

Nigeria defeated Sierra Leone in the opening game of the NCF Women’s Invitational Tournament.

Nigeria's female national cricket coach, Leke Oyede, has said he is confident in his team's performance and vows they will improve with every game in the tournament.

Pulse Sports reports that Nigeria defeated Sierra Leone in the opening game of the NCF Women’s Invitational Tournament.

The Third edition of the five countries tournament started on Monday at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) Cricket Oval, Lagos.

Nigeria won with six wickets, and the team processed 67 runs from 14 overs.

We are not Scared of any team - Oyede Affirms

The gaffer affirmed that he and his team are not scared of any team in the championship.

Recall that the defending champions, the Rwanda team, beat Nigeria to win the last edition.

He said, “I am and my girls are not scared of any team, including the team everybody looks up to, which is Rwanda and it is not a problem for me, we take every game as it comes.

“There are plans put in place by the NCF, and we are going to stick with our game plans regardless of anything that happens to win the tournament.”

On having young players in his team, Oyede confirmed that the players are adapting to the Yellow Female Greens team and that after a few games, they will gain the confidence of the big stage.

"The young players needed to adapt, and that is why we brought them into camp where they spend about five weeks in camp with the senior players, and they have adjusted with the senior ones but we still can't neglect the fact that bringing a new player to tournaments like this will still affect them," he told PULSE SPORTS

The event is supported by various sponsors, including Access Bank, the Lagos State Government, Alaro City, EKO Electricity distribution company, Lagos Intercontinental Hotel Pets Foundation, Aries Suites, Pillar Oil, and Geregu Energy.

Nigeria will play Cameroun on Tuesday for their second game.
