Efe Ajagba sets sights on heavyweight Championship glory
Nigerian boxer Efe Ajagba has the blueprint to become a heavyweight boxing champion.
“Blessed beyond words. In my first defense of the WBA NABA title, I secured the KO in Round 2. This win is for everyone who’s been on this journey with me the ups, the downs, the grind,” Nwokolo posted on Instagram.
The 31-year-old, son of Nigerian boxing legend Charles Nwokolo, entered the bout brimming with confidence. “I have done everything on my part, now it is get into the ring and do the business,” he said on the eve of the fight.

His preparation paid off, as he overwhelmed McIntosh with relentless pressure, shrugging off earlier concerns about a hand injury that had sidelined him in 2024.
The fight took a personal turn during the pre-fight face-off. “During the face off my opponent was challenging me in a disrespectful way saying he was going to take my belt,” he mentioned.

“This really fired me up and brought out my warrior spirit which was on full display last night during the match,” Nwokolo revealed. “I never let up on the pressure and he couldn’t handle my power but in the true spirit of boxing, he came to me in the ring after the KO and apologised saying he had never felt such power in the ring.”
Nwokolo’s dominance echoes his June 2024 performance, where he claimed the WBA NABA and UBO world super welterweight titles with a unanimous decision over Colombia’s Jeovanis Barraza, earning scores of 120-108, 120-108, and 118-110.

Named the 2024 Universal Boxing Organisation Boxer of the Year, Nwokolo expressed gratitude to his supporters: “I am humble and grateful and feel blessed beyond words. This win is for everyone who’s been on this journey with me — the ups, the downs, the grind. Thank you for believing in me. We keep building.”
Michael Reyes, founder of Reyes Boxing Inc., hinted at a major title defense for Nwokolo at a Down & Dirty event slated for September or October.
Meanwhile, Nwokolo’s connection to his Nigerian roots remains strong. During a 2024 visit to Lagos, he donated boxing kits to young fighters and voiced his ambition to fight in Nigeria.
He is looking to have a fight in Nigeria, in Lagos or in his hometown in Anambra, where he father comes from.
