In Day 2 of the BAL Sahara Conference, US Monastir and Kriol win in style.

When the Sahara Conference returned to Dakar Arena in Senegal, the 2022 BAL champion US Monastir of Tunisia overcame a defeat to defeat the reigning champion Petro de Luanda of Angola 87-73.

Babacar Sane, a former NBA Academy Africa student-athlete, and Osiris Eldrige combined for 47 points and 10 rebounds.

On the attacking end, the Tunisian champs were extremely effective, making 57.1 percent of their shots, including 17 of 28 from outside the arc.

Yannick Moreira (14 points, 9 rebounds) and EJ Anosike (16 points, 8 rebounds) lead Petro de Luanda. Following their opening weekend games, both teams are 1-1.

In the day's second game, Cape Verde's Kriol Star defeated Senegal's ASC Ville de Dakar 66-63 in a thrilling fashion. Dakar's Will Perry missed his final three-point effort with an opportunity to force overtime.

Ivan Almeida's (13 points, 13 rebounds) late-game two-pointer in the fourth quarter gave the Star the lead and guaranteed their first victory of the tournament on a shooting night that was difficult for both teams.

Perry concluded with 23 points, Ater Majok contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds for Dakar, while Richaud Pack led the Star with 19 points.

With each team ending the weekend with a 1-1 record, the Sahara Conference is still very much up in the air.
