We did expect it - Julien Alfred reveals after blistering world-leading 21.88s at Tom Jones Invitational

After achieving an outstanding world-leading 200m time of 21.88s at the Tom Jones Invitational on Friday (April 17th), Julien Alfred stated that the performance was anticipated by both her and her coach.

The Olympic champion effortlessly blazed to the win in her 200m season opener, taking down a strong field with Nigeria's sprint sensation Favour Ofili finishing second in 22.34s, while USA's Tamari Davis was third in 22.37s.

Speaking after the race, Alfred said it was an expected result and looking ahead to the rest of the season.

"Based off my coach and what I've been working on, he did say I'll be around there. However, I'm just grateful to be healthy and looking forward to what the season holds," she said.

When asked if running a series of 300m and 400m earlier in the season was beneficial for her strength through the finish line, the Saint Lucian sprint queen gave an affirmative answer.

"I really did, finished stronger without breaking up as much as I used to before, so I definitely feel the benefits of these longer races."

Alfred concluded by revealing she'll be competing in Europe next, sometime in May.
