Jefferson-Wooden led from the start, leaving the rest of the field to do chasing, before blazing to the finish line in a new personal best and CR of 10.61s, thus smashing Sha'Carri Richardson's previous record of 10.65s recorded at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest.

Her time also makes her the fourth-fastest woman in history and the third-fastest American woman ever.

Jamaican youngster finally came into her own, ensuring her country continued the streak of medalling in the event, as she powered to the silver medal in a new personal best of 10.76s.

While Olympic champion Julien Alfred settled for the bronze medal in a respectable 10.84s from her standards.

Meanwhile, defending champion Sha'Carri Richardson, despite her turbulent buildup to Tokyo, finished fifth in a SB of 10.94s, behind Shericka Jackson, who also clocked a SB of 10.93s.

Jefferson-Wooden will aim to secure a second world title, when she competes in the 200m.
