Ashley Anumba's impressive start to the season continued at the NCAA Championships, by winning a silver medal in the women's Discus throw event.

University of Virginia's Ashley Anumba is having a fantastic season so far, and her latest achievement at the just concluded NCAA Championships proved it's just the beginning.

Anumba sent her Discus flying to a massive Personal Best (PB) of 61.13m to top her school record and earn a second-place podium finish at the championship.

It makes it the second time she has thrown above the 60m mark this year as earlier in the season at the Tucson Elite Classic, the Virginia school record holder launched her Discus to a then PB of 60.97m, joining an elite list of Nigerian throwers to have thrown over the 60m mark.

Her new 61.13m now strengthens her position as the third-best Discus thrower in Nigerian history, behind Chioma Onyekwere's African Record of 64.96m and Chinwe Okoro's distance of 61.58m set back in 2016.

Anumba also has a shot of making the World Championships team based on the top list, which will be the first time in Nigeria's athletics history when it happens that two Discus throwers made it to the global event.

With the Nigerian trials still to hold, it'll be a great battle between her and Onyekwere as she guns to upset the African Record holder for the National title, but also to hit the World Championships qualifying standard of 64.50m.
