Nigerian athletes have been in blazing form this year, breaking records or surpassing their career bests at every meet they've competed.

At the New Mexico Team Open, Alaba Akintola blazed to a brilliant Personal Best (PB) and School Record (SR) of 20.63s to finish second in the 200m final.

His performance made him the first Nigerian male athlete to go sub-21s this season, the fastest time in the C-USA, and No. 6 on the NCAA top list this year.

Akintota has been in outstanding form since the season started, as two weeks ago he clocked a 60m PB and SR of 6.59s, the second fastest by a Nigerian behind Favour Ashe.

The Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) sophomore student now holds the SR in the 60m, 200m indoor, 100m, and 200m outdoor, making him the best sprinter in the school's history.
