‘Stay focused and bring home the trophy’ - Akpabio tells Super Eagles after AFCON semi-final qualification

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has congratulated the Super Eagles for securing a place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), urging the team to sustain their momentum and go on to lift the continental trophy.

Akpabio’s message followed Nigeria’s emphatic 2-0 victory over Algeria in their quarter-final clash in Marrakech, Morocco.

The congratulatory statement was issued on Sunday through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh.

Describing the national team as the “pride of Nigeria,” the Senate President praised the players for their discipline, resilience, and collective spirit, noting that their performance has lifted the mood of Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.

“I heartily congratulate the Super Eagles on their impressive 2-0 victory over Algeria, which earned them a well-deserved place in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations,” Akpabio said.

He added that the team’s display reflects their dedication and determination to succeed on the continental stage.

“You are the pride of the nation. This achievement shows your dedication and determination, and it has made Nigerians proud,” he remarked.

Akpabio called on the players to remain focused as they prepare for a difficult semi-final encounter against host nation Morocco on Wednesday.

“We are proud of you. The 10th Senate and all Nigerians are behind you, cheering you on. Stay focused, keep the momentum, and bring home the trophy,” he stated.
