Former Nigeria captain Sunday Oliseh has revealed the Super Eagles' most important player ahead of their must-win semifinal clash against Morocco this Wednesday in Rabat.
Eric Chelle's Super Eagles have been near-perfect at AFCON 2025 so far, with several individuals standing out at different times.
While the headlines have often been dominated by Victor Osimhen, Oliseh believes Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman is the tactical engine driving Nigeria’s charge toward a fourth continental title.

AFCON 2025: 'Morocco look scary' — Iwobi cautious but confident ahead of semi-final showdown
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has admitted that Morocco will be the biggest hurdle in Nigeria’s path as the two heavyweights prepare for a blockbuster AFCON 2025 semifinal in Rabat this Wednesday.
The Super Eagles have momentum, coming into this semi-final clash against Morocco, boasting an impressive record of five wins, 14 goals scored, and only four conceded throughout the tournament.
Sunday Oliseh hails Lookman as Super Eagles most important player
Oliseh, speaking on his YouTube channel, highlighted Lookman’s rare ability to maintain forward momentum even under immense pressure.
“The player that I think is our most important player has been Lookman. This boy has made it difficult,” Oliseh stated.
“In fact, there was a game I did statistics on him, the game against Mozambique, Lookman almost never passes one ball backward. This is one of the most difficult things to do. He is always driving forward.”
He further praised the midfield trio of Frank Onyeka, Wilfred Ndidi, and Alex Iwobi for providing the platform that allows Lookman to thrive, describing Iwobi as the team’s “pre-assist king.”
Chelle's men will know the task ahead of them is a massive one as they look to bring down the Atlas Lions on their own turf, but on current form, it is unwise to bet against Nigeria.
This is a team of players at the peak of their powers; from the rock solid defence, to Iwobi's industry and creativity in midfield, the Super Eagles have the perfect platform for the likes of Lookman, Akor Adams and Osimhen to thrive.
