The family of the late legendary Nigerian goalkeeper, Prince Peter “Dodo Mayana” Rufai, has released an official statement confirming his death and expressing gratitude to Nigerians and the global football community for the outpouring of love and condolences.

The statement, signed by 11 members of the Rufai family, disclosed that the former Super Eagles shot-stopper passed away peacefully at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2025, after a brief illness. He was aged 61.
“With total submission to the will of Almighty God, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the transition to glory of our father and brother, the legendary former Super Eagles goalkeeper, PRINCE PETER ‘DODO MAYANA’ RUFAI,” the family wrote.
