Xabi Alonso Remains Focused on Leverkusen Amid Liverpool Job Speculation

Despite being a strong candidate and a fan favourite due to his history with Liverpool, Alonso has made clear his current commitment and satisfaction with his role at Bayer Leverkusen.

In a recent press conference, Alonso addressed these speculations directly. He emphasized his focus on his current responsibilities at Bayer Leverkusen, stating, as reported by Fabrizio on X, “Speculation is normal, my focus is here on Bayer Leverkusen. 

"I am very happy at Leverkusen with my players at the moment.” This statement reflects his dedication to his present role, despite the growing rumours about a potential move to Liverpool.

Alonso also expressed his surprise and admiration for Jurgen Klopp's work at Liverpool, acknowledging the significant impact Klopp has had on the club. 

His respect for Klopp's achievements is evident, as he stated, “[It was a] big surprise in Liverpool, of course — for what Jürgen did in Liverpool I have great respect and admiration”

In terms of results, Leverkusen has been exceptional under Alonso's leadership. In the Bundesliga, they achieved a remarkable record of 15 wins, 3 draws, and no defeats in the first 18 games, scoring 50 goals and conceding only 14. 

In the Europa League, they boasted a perfect record with 6 wins out of 6 games, scoring 19 goals and conceding just 3. Additionally, they had success in the DFB-Pokal, winning all 3 matches they played.
