The Blues submitted a formal offer worth €40 million, but the transfer ultimately did not come to fruition. Barcelona had been confident the La Masia graduate would not accept a move away from the club.

The club's belief in the player was further demonstrated by manager Hansi Flick, who utilized Fermín in the recent 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo while with the Spain national team, Fermín opened up about the interest from Chelsea and his decision to stay put.

“At the end of the day, my priority has always been to be at Barcelona. I arrived here at 12 years old, it was my dream to be here, to reach the first team.

It’s always flattering when there’s interest [from other clubs], but it’s always been my idea to stay at Barça, which was my dream, and to succeed here."

In just two seasons with Barcelona's first team, the midfielder has become a significant asset, scoring 19 goals and providing 11 assists in 90 appearances. His quality and energy in the final third have made him an important part of Flick’s side.
