The 23-year-old joined the German side last summer from Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise and hit the ground running, winning the Rookie of the Month prize in August, September, October and November.

During that impressive start, Boniface scored seven goals and provided five assists in just 12 Bundesliga appearances for Leverkusen.

His remarkable form also earned him a senior international debut for Nigeria’s Super Eagles in September under former manager Jose Peseiro.

The striker continued his hot streak in December with a further three goals and two assists in four league games before a muscle injury in January disrupted his campaign and ruled him out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

However, Boniface picked up where he left off on his return to action in April, scoring once and setting up another goal as Leverkusen won their first ever Bundesliga title.

His contributions have been crucial, with the Werkself also reaching the DFB Cup final and UEFA Europa League final in their pursuit of an historic treble.

Boniface's heroics have not gone unnoticed, earning him a nomination for the Bundesliga's prestigious Rookie of the Season award. But he faces strong competition for the award, with three other contenders.

Next term, the Nigerian hotshot will get his first taste of the UEFA Champions League as Leverkusen prepare to unleash him on Europe's elite club competition.
