Vicoty Chepngeno claims 10,000m victory at sixth Athletics Kenya meet

The 2022 Houston Half Marathon champion Vicoty Chepngeno obliterated a strong field to win the women’s 10,000m race in the sixth Athletics Kenya meet at the Moi International Sports Center in Kasarani on Thursday.

Chepngeno of North Rift was in a class of her own as she cruised to the finish line in 33:27.40 ahead of Roselidah Jepketer of Central Rift who clocked 33:47.70. 

The 2022 Toronto Waterfront Marathon champion Antonina Kwambai of North Rift was also part of the race and she finished third in 34:02.30. 

Chepngeno expressed her excitement about winning the title and revealed that investing more time into training is the secret to her success.

“I am happy to have won this race. Working hard in training is what has saved the day for me…I was not expecting to win,” she said.

Chepngeno kickstarted her season with a 10km race in Valencia where she settled for seventh place in 31:05. She also competed at the Tokyo Marathon but unfortunately did not finish the race.
