Uganda Junior Silverbacks, Gazelles off to Tunisia for African Championships
Uganda will present two teams at this year’s FIBA U16 Africa Championships slated for July 13-23 in Monastir, Tunisia.
The two teams have been training at the YMCA, Wandegeya and Nakasero Primary School, under the stewardship of coaches Michael Seger and John Omondi, together with their team of associate coaches.
The Junior Silverbacks booked their ticket to the championship after winning the Fiba Zone Five Qualifiers in Kigali, Rwanda, last month.
“The success that we registered in Kigali, Rwanda, during the qualifiers last month ignited a belief in the players that we belong to the big stage, and they are ready for the challenge ahead in Tunisia,” FUBA Vice President -Administration Hudson Ssegamwenge said ahead of the trip.
“I am confident that the teams will qualify for the U17 World Championships due next year,” Ssegamwenge added.
The teams will depart for Monastir on July 12, 2023 aboard Emirates Airlines.
