The UEFA Champions League league phase draw has produced a series of heavyweight clashes, with Europe’s biggest clubs learning the opponents they will face on their route towards the knockout stages.

Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Manchester United and Galatasaray are among the teams handed intriguing schedules.

PSG, Barcelona and Real Madrid learn their opponents

Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain have been handed a challenging line-up featuring Barcelona and Manchester City from Pot 1, while Roma and Aston Villa provide their Pot 2 opposition. Galatasaray and Villarreal complete the Turkish and Spanish flavour of their schedule, with Slovan Bratislava and Como also drawn against the French giants.

Barcelona will face a similarly difficult campaign, with Manchester City and PSG providing two blockbuster Pot 1 encounters. The Catalans will also meet Aston Villa, Sporting CP, Feyenoord, Galatasaray, Como and Sabah.

Real Madrid's route includes meetings with Inter and Arsenal, alongside PSV and Roma. Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk provide further tests before clashes with LASK and AEK Athens.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will face Atletico Madrid and Inter from Pot 1, with Porto, Club Brugge, Villarreal, Fenerbahçe, Lens and LASK completing their schedule.

Inter themselves have been drawn against Liverpool and Real Madrid, as well as Borussia Dortmund, Club Brugge, Shakhtar Donetsk, Feyenoord, Stuttgart and Slovan Bratislava.

Arsenal, Man United and Galatasaray face intriguing tests

Arsenal have been handed arguably one of the toughest schedules, with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich both awaiting the Gunners. Their other opponents include Borussia Dortmund, Real Betis, Lille, Napoli, Sabah and Slavia Praha.

Manchester United will also have plenty to worry about. The Red Devils face Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid, while Roma and Sporting CP provide further Pot 2 challenges. Leipzig, Villarreal, Sabah and Como complete their league-phase opponents.

Galatasaray, meanwhile, have landed two of Europe's biggest names in Barcelona and PSG. The Turkish champions will also meet Aston Villa and Sporting CP, before facing Feyenoord, Lille, Stuttgart and AEK Athens.

Other notable pairings include Manchester City against PSG and Barcelona, Atletico Madrid against Bayern Munich and Liverpool, and Borussia Dortmund against Inter and Arsenal.

With eight opponents and no traditional group-stage format, every fixture carries added significance. The new-look Champions League promises plenty of heavyweight encounters before the knockout phase even begins.
