Transfer news: Lookman rejects Fenerbahçe’s salary package for Atletico Madrid contract
The Atalanta forward, who was the subject of transfer speculation throughout the summer, had initially been linked with a move to Fenerbahce.
While personal terms were reportedly agreed upon for a winter transfer, the deal fell through when the Turkish side could not meet Atalanta's payment conditions for a proposed €40 million fee.
Following the breakdown of those talks, Atletico Madrid entered the negotiations and agreed on personal terms and transfer fee with Atalanta.
Lookman rejects Fenerbahce’s contract
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the Spanish club has now secured an agreement with Lookman after presenting an improved proposal.
Romano reports that Lookman has made his preference clear, choosing a move to the Wanda Metropolitano.
This decision comes despite Fenerbahce making a revised and highly lucrative offer, reportedly worth around €11 million net per year (approximately ₦18 billion).
Atletico Madrid is understood to have a verbal agreement in place with Atalanta for a transfer fee of €35 million, with an additional €5 million in potential add-ons. However, the final details of the deal are still pending completion.
Should the transfer be finalised, it would mark the end of a successful tenure for Lookman at Atalanta.
Since his arrival in the summer of 2022, the forward has been a standout performer, scoring 55 goals and providing 27 assists in 137 appearances.
