Tottenham vs Arsenal: Gunners EPL title bid under pressure - Alan Shearer
Alan Shearer has warned that “cracks are starting to show” in Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge following their 2-2 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Gunners surrendered a two-goal advantage, a result that leaves them five points clear of Manchester City, though Pep Guardiola’s side has a game in hand.
What Shearer said
Speaking ahead of the North London derby, Shearer expressed concern about Arsenal’s recent defensive lapses.
“Cracks are starting to show now for Arsenal, and I think because of being 2-0 up and then being pegged back as they were by the team at the bottom of the Premier League in Wolves it doesn’t look good,” he said.
Shearer admitted he never expected Arsenal to cruise to the title, particularly given their long wait for Premier League success.
“I pretty much expected this. I never thought they'd run away with it. Very rarely do teams do that, particularly with teams that haven't won it for a long time like Arsenal,” he explained.
The former striker suggested the psychological strain of leading the table could now become a decisive factor.
“Whether they like it or not, Arsenal probably haven't liked people going on about them bottling it, them chucking it away and the pressure being on them. They probably haven't liked it. Well, they won't like what'll happen in the next few days now, because the noise will get a lot louder,” he added.
Attention now turns to the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.
