Tokyo 2025: Oblique Seville defeats Noah Lyles to become Jamaica's first 100m world champion in 10 years
As the saying goes, 'delay is never denial'. This is the story of Oblique Seville, who after several years of not medalling in a major championship final, has become Jamaica's first world champion in 10 years, defeating Olympic champion Noah Lyles.
In a highly competitive men's 100m final at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships, Seville produced his best career performance when it mattered most, blazing to the finish line in an astonishing new personal best of 9.79s.
He overcame the fast-starting, powerful run of his compatriot Kishane Thompson, who settled for another silver medal in 9.82s, while defending champion Lyles locked in a Season's Best (SB) of 9.89s for the bronze medal.

With Seville's winning performance, he became Jamaica's first world champion since Usain Bolt - a feat that has taken over a decade to accomplish.
He has also propelled himself as a worthy competitor and champion in the elite league of the world's best sprinters after several years of disappointing performances at major championships.
