'Time to conquer the world' - Nigeria's captain promises more at ICC Women's U-19 World Cup

Nigeria's Junior Female Yellow Greens captain, Lucky Piety, has vowed that the team will deliver impressive performances at the upcoming ICC Women's U-19 World Cup in Malaysia next year.

The team secured their place in the tournament after defeating Zimbabwe in the final of the Africa Qualifier Division 1 in Kigali, Rwanda.

Piety, speaking to The Middle Stump after the final, expressed gratitude for the support they received from Nigerians back home and emphasised the team's determination to excel at the World Cup.

“First of all, we are grateful for the support back home, and yes, expect more from us at the World Cup because it's time to conquer the world.

“When we were in the group stage, we knew we could be the best, and there was no looking back from there," she said.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has also announced plans to commence rigorous preparations for the team ahead of the tournament, which is scheduled to take place from January 18 to February 2, 2025.

NCF President, Uyi Akpata, commended the players for their boldness and dedication and highlighted the need for increased resources and a well-structured plan to ensure a successful campaign.

"All hands must be on deck, and it starts now," he stated.

The Junior Female Yellow Greens are expected to return to Nigeria on Tuesday with a reception at the Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval in Lagos.
