‘They would lose the league’ - Turkish legend claims Galatasaray are a normal club without Osimhen
Galatasaray secured a narrow 3-2 Super Lig victory over Genclerbirligi Ankara on Saturday following their return from the international break.
Manager Okan Buruk was forced to field a side without Osimhen, who was sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Without their record signing leading the line, the Turkish champions endured a difficult first half before securing the win.
Engin speaks on Osimhen’s influence at Galatasaray
Engin argued that the performance highlighted just how crucial Osimhen is to Galatasaray's attacking prowess, noting a significant drop-off when he is not on the pitch.
"Galatasaray is never going to hold together without Osimhen," Engin stated, as reported by Turkish outlet habersarikirmizi.com.
"Without Osimhen, Galatasaray looks like a very normal team. Where are his, Liverpool’s, and Bodo’s matches? Galatasaray fans must have been in a pessimistic mood in the first half."
Engin also contrasted Osimhen's professionalism with the ongoing dispute between Besiktas and Portuguese midfielder Rafa Silva, who has reportedly missed training sessions, prompting the club to consider involving FIFA.
"Osimhen is indispensable for Galatasaray. If Osimhen did what Rafa Silva did today, Galatasaray would lose the championship," Engin added.
"What Rafa Silva did was a huge disrespect. Osimhen is not like that. Rafa Silva should follow Osimhen's example."
Currently the top scorer in the UEFA Champions League with six goals, Osimhen now faces a race to be fit for Galatasaray's upcoming European fixture against Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on Tuesday.
