‘They are mad’ - Calvin Bassey picks the country with the most passionate fans

The Fulham star chose to play for the Super Eagles, making his debut in 2022 and quickly becoming a key player for the team.

The 24-year-old has also become a mainstay for his club, Fulham, where he was one of manager Marco Silva's most reliable players last season, even winning the club's Player of the Season award.

In a recent conversation with his Fulham and Nigeria teammate Alex Iwobi, Bassey compared the atmosphere at club games to international matches with the Super Eagles.

Bassey has admitted that Nigerian supporters stand out for their unmatched intensity and passion.

“I prefer the Nigerian fans; they are mad," Bassey said. "They are there constantly, like two hours before the game.”

“There are people there with their drums out, they've got everything. I've even seen a man with a guitar in the stands. They will paint their own bodies head to toe. 

“They are proper sick. But they can turn on you sometimes, but when you're winning, they cheer you on. But I can't lie, I've got to respect them. They turn up in every game.”

Bassey's comments shows his appreciation for the vibrant and dedicated support from the Super Eagles fanbase.

The Fulham star will have another opportunity to play in front of the passionate home crowd when Nigeria faces Benin in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
