'The fastest man in the world' - New sprint lord Oblique Seville embraces bragging rights with a heartfelt thank you note
Newly crowned world 100m champion Oblique Seville is still basking in the glory of his feat as the 'fastest man in the world', penning a heartfelt thank you note following his Tokyo 2025 success.
The Jamaican new sprint lord sped to the world title in a nail-biting men's 100m final in Tokyo, by clocking an astonishing new personal best of 9.79s.
He overcame the fast-starting, powerful run of his compatriot Kishane Thompson, who settled for another silver medal in 9.82s, while defending champion Noah Lyles locked in a Season's Best (SB) of 9.89s for the bronze medal.
Seville's groundbreaking victory saw him become Jamaica's first world champion since Usain Bolt (2017) - a feat that took over a decade to accomplish.
After his remarkable success, which brought joy to all Jamaicans and the Caribbean, Seville shared an exuberant post celebrating his new title as the "fastest man in the world," expressing his heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported his dreams.
"The fastest man in the World!!🙏🏿😌 Sounds good🤣🤣😂😂 The title is back in the best country, 🇯🇲 This is the sprint factory @racerstrackclub," he wrote.
Seville further added the journey it took to finally achieve his dreams after years of disappointments at major championship finals.
"You will win and you will lose. Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat. God has been good to me and I give him thanks everyday. He will be good to you too. I felt the many prayers you all prayed and I am grateful. I started in Tokyo and now my first medal is from Tokyo. Keep focused on your goals even in the lowest moments, remember why you are doing this."
The 24-year-old was Jamaica's only gold medallist at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships, making his feat even more exceptional for his country.
