Super Eagles star Semi Ajayi suffers hamstring injury in Hull City win over Man United
Nigerian international Semi Ajayi faces a nervous wait over his fitness after Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic confirmed that the defender was forced off with a hamstring complaint during the Tigers' impressive 2-0 victory over Manchester United.
Ajayi enjoyed a memorable start to Hull City's Premier League campaign at the MKM Stadium, scoring the opening goal as the newly promoted side stunned the visitors.
However, his impressive afternoon was cut short in the second half after he reported discomfort and was substituted in the 64th minute.
Jakirovic confirms hamstring complaint
Paddy McNair replaced Ajayi in the 64th minute as Jakirovic was forced to reorganise his defence.
Speaking after the match, the Hull manager admitted that the changes were not part of his original tactical plan and were instead prompted by injuries.
"It was not the plan. We made four substitutions in the defensive line. I don't know, after a medical check I will know much more,” he said.
The manager subsequently provided more information about the problems affecting his players, confirming that Ajayi had experienced an issue with his hamstring.
"Ajayi was complaining about his hamstring, and Nobel about his adductor. Coyle always with his ankles," Jakirovic explained.
Ajayi doubtful for Stoke clash
Hull City are scheduled to face Stoke City in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, but Ajayi's participation is now in serious doubt.
The defender is expected to undergo further assessment before the club determines the severity of the hamstring problem.
Jakirovic is also facing fitness concerns over other members of his defensive unit, potentially leaving Hull with selection problems ahead of their next fixture.
The manager hinted that the club could also return to the transfer market before the window closes, particularly if injuries continue to affect his squad.
"That is normal. Maybe we will bring some new players again. We have ten days to go, we will see. It depends on their problems," Jakirovic said.
