In a heartbreaking coincidence, news of Castro’s death emerged on the same day Ajayi produced a memorable performance for Hull City against Manchester United.

The Nigerian defender scored the opening goal as Hull stunned United 2-0 in their first Premier League match since returning to the top flight. Ajayi also helped the Tigers keep a clean sheet in an outstanding individual display.

West Brom confirmed that Castro would be remembered before their match against Burnley.

“Albion will pay tribute to Quevin on Sunday, with a period of applause in the 25th minute,” the club said, adding that the players would wear black armbands.

Real Sport Clube and Estrela da Amadora also paid tribute to Castro on social media after the fixture was postponed following the devastating incident. Castro’s death has sent shockwaves through Portuguese football, with tributes continuing to emerge for the young midfielder whose life was tragically cut short.
