Spintex Knights join Nigeria's super duo Rivers Hoopers & Kwara Falcons in semis
Ghana’s representative at the Louis Edem Basketball Championship Spintex Knights will not be going back to their country soon.
Spintex Knights have survived the group stages of the competition and booked a ticket to the semifinal of the ten-team competition.
The Knights were on the brink of elimination after a narrow and painful defeat to Nigeria’s Comets in their final game in Group A.
Lagos-based Comets edged out their counterparts from Ghana in an intense encounter that saw the Nigerians win 56-54.
Both teams won two-quarters apiece but the Comets did just about enough to seal the slim victory in the Jollof War.
Spintex's journey to the semis
Ghana’s Knights came into the competition as the only invited team from outside Nigeria and have gone on to show they were invited on merit.
The Knights won two of their opening three jollof wars before falling to Comets narrowly in the final game that left them on the brink.
However, they will have to thank another Nigerian side, Unilag, for doing them a favour later on Thursday evening.
The University team handed Spintex a chance back into the tournament after seeing off Comets, with the Knights going through thanks to their superior goal difference.
The clash of champions
The second semifinal of the day will see two giants of the sport in Nigeria go head-to-head.
Former champions Rivers Hoopers will have their hands full when they take on current champions and Nigeria’s representative at BAL, Kwara Falcons, in the second game in the last four.
Both teams have looked good in the competition so far and will surely excite spectators at the Indoor Sports Hall inside the National Stadium in Surulere when they take to the court later today.
