Senegal President Hands Multi-Million Rewards to Sadio Mane and Teammates After AFCON 2025 Glory

Senegal players have been richly rewarded back at home for their gallant performance that saw them win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.

Senegal emerged victorious in Sunday’s final, beating hosts Morocco 1-0 in extra-time, after dramatic scenes that witnessed some of their players walk off the pitch as they protested a late penalty awarded to the hosts.

Brahim Diaz would miss the contested penalty with what was the last kick of the 90 minutes of regulation time that sent the game into an additional 30 minutes, where Pape Gueye slammed home a ferocious shot, to win the trophy for the Teranga Lions.

What Will The Senegal Players Receive?

Senegal returned home on Tuesday morning and the players received a hero’s welcome as they displayed the trophy to their fans from an open-top bus through the streets of the country’s capital Dakar.

The players then met government officials, led by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who lauded them for “demonstrating exceptional fighting spirit, extraordinary resilience, and an iron will” during the continental tournament.

According to multiple media reports in Senegal, Faye then awarded each player 75 million CFA francs (Ksh17.29 million), as well as a parcel of land along Senegal’s sought-after beach stretch Petite Côte.

More Money for the Teranga Lions from CAF

The players were also awarded the highest national honours in the country, theCommander of the National Order of the Lion of Senegal,while each federation member was rewarded with 50 million CFA francs (Ksh11.5 million) and a piece of land.

This was the second AFCON title for Senegal, who were crowned AFCON 2021 champions, following their post-match penalty win over Egypt in the final staged in Cameroon in February 2022.

Senegal were rewarded $10 million (Ksh1.29 billion) by tournament organisers Confederation of African Football as prize money for winning AFCON 2025.
