Mane led Senegal to AFCON 2025 glory when his goals en route to the final and his leadership during the decisive match saw them win 1-0 against hosts Morocco on Sunday.

Both teams put up a spectacle but drama ensued in the latter stages of the match when Senegal scored a goal that was ruled out for a foul on Achraf Hakimi, while Morocco were awarded a penalty moments later, which the Senegalese disputed.

Mane Showed Leadership in Chaotic Final

Some of the Senegal players even walked off the pitch in protest and it took the intervention of some senior players, led by Mane, to bring the back for the penalty.

In a twist of fate, Brahim Diaz missed the penalty for Morocco after a horrible Panenka attempt was easily gathered by Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, taking the game to extra-time, where Pape Gueye scored a cracking goal to win it for Pape Thiaw’s men.

Mane, who scored two goals and added as many assists at AFCON 2025, was named Player of the Tournament and he has given some credit to Tamba.

Senegal Legend on Impact of Wife and Child

“In the 2021 edition, I had no wife and no child and that championship was very special to me,” Mane said in reference to his AFCON title win in 2021. “As for now, I’ve celebrated with my wife and daughter, so this win means even more and the happiness is indescribable.”

The couple, whose private wedding in January 2024 was highly publicised due to the age gap between them, Mane then 31 and Tamba 18 at the time, have kept their marriage private since then.

They welcomed their first child, a daughter, on March 13, 2025. The 33-year-old has already confirmed that this was his last AFCON tournament.
