The fallout stems from Salah’s reaction after Liverpool’s dramatic 3–3 draw against Leeds United, where the Egyptian winger reportedly said the club had “thrown him under the bus” and hinted at a deteriorating relationship with his new manager.

What Rooney said

Speaking on his podcast, Rooney expressed shock that Salah had chosen to make his frustrations public.

“He is absolutely destroying his legacy at Liverpool. It would be sad for him to throw it all away. He’s gone about it all wrong,” Rooney said.

Rooney, who captained both Manchester United and England, argued that Liverpool’s dressing room could be destabilised if Slot does not intervene immediately.

Rooney went further, urging Slot to take a firm stance by removing Salah from the squad for upcoming fixtures, including the Champions League tie against Inter Milan and a key Premier League clash with Brighton.

He added, “Arne Slot has to show his authority and pull him in and say, ‘You are not travelling with the team; what you said is not acceptable.’”

The former striker insisted a temporary separation could help ease tensions.

“Take yourself off to AFCON and let everything calm down. If I was him, there would be no way he would be in the team.”

Rooney concluded that the issue must be resolved immediately before the situation escalates.
