REVEALED: Tobi Amusan guaranteed over ₦80 MILLION as world championship silver medal reward

After winning an iconic silver medal at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships, Tobi Amusan's prize money reward ha been revealed.

World record holder Tobi Amusan is guaranteed to earn thousands of dollars from winning her iconic silver medal at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships.

The Nigerian hurdling queen bounced back to global limelight in the women's 100mH final in Tokyo, by blazing to a blistering 12.29s to win the silver medal, behind surprise winner Ditaji Kambundji, who stormed to a new Swiss national record and personal best of 12.24s.

For her brilliant performance, Amusan will receive a massive monetary reward, totaling $55,000 (over ₦80 million).

This is from World Athletics total prize money on offer in Tokyo at $8,498,000, with significant allocations across all individual and relay events.

For individual athletes, Gold medallists will earn $70,000, silver medallists are guaranteed $35,000, and bronze medallists $22,000. Fourth is $16,000, $11,000 for fifth, $7000 for sixth, $6000 for seventh, and $5000 for eighth.

Therefore, Amusan is guaranteed $35,000 (#52,549,191.45) in addition to Hiracer's (Nigeria’s official kit supplier for Tokyo 2025), pledged podium bonuses to athletes before the championships began.

According to the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) president Tonobok Okowa, the company will give gold medallists an extra $30,000, silver medallists $20,000, and bronze medallists $10,000.

“The company said they would give any gold medallist $30,000, silver medallist $20,000, and bronze medallist $10,000. So they should concentrate, work hard and try to win, and then they will win their money,” said Okowa in an interview with The Punch.

So, by virtue of Amusan's silver medal, she also takes home Hiracer’s $20,000 (N30,028,109.40). And combined with her World Athletics prize money, the track star's total haul rises to $55,000 (N82,577,300.85).

Amusan's remarkable performance is now recorded in history as Nigeria's first two-time 100m hurdles medallist in world championship history.
