REPORT: Olympic champion Noah Lyles injured for the first time in 6 years, withdraws from Adidas Atlanta City Games
World and Olympic champion Noah Lyles is reportedly injured for the first time in six years and has withdrawn from the Adidas Atlanta City Games this weekend.
The American sprint champion was scheduled to compete in the 150m at the annual games against a respectable field that includes fellow Adidas-sponsored athletes Alexander Ogando, Zharnel Hughes, Ferdinand Omanyala, and Terrence Jones.
Sadly, he won't be racing again after a reported injury, with the nature and length of its severity not yet confirmed.
Lyles has had a quiet start to the 2025 season. After a series of indoor performances, he ran his first outdoor race a month ago in the 400m at the Tom Jones Invitational, where he settled for a fifth-place finish in a personal best time of 45.87s.
Since then, he's been out of competition and only focused on off-track activities. Also, it is the first time in six years Lyles has been announced to have an injury, thus raising concerns on his health after his Paris Olympics debacle.
With the unfortunate incident now derailing his training progression, Lyles will be hoping to recover and return on time for the rest of the season, for a chance at defending his sprint titles at the World Championships in Tokyo this summer.
