Remo Stars continue Showcase run, sweep TCC awards
Nigerian representatives at the Generation Adidas Cup, GA Cup, Remo Stars Academy, have found their mojo at the showcase category of the competition.
Remo Stars’ Beyond Limits made it two wins in two after a narrow 1-0 win over MLSNEXT side Houston Dynamo on Saturday evening.
A second-half striker from Kparobo Arierhi proved the difference between the two as Beyond Limits continued their journey at the Showcase.
Beyond Limits at the Showcase
The Ikenne-based team found themselves at the Showcase level after dropping from the U-17 competition.
No Limits crashed out in the first round of the knockout stages following a penalty shootout defeat to Philadelphia Union.
The game against the MLSNEXT team ended in a goalless affair after the regular 90 minutes but Beyond lost 4-1 on a penalty shootout.
Following the painful defeat to Philadelphia, the No Limits boys dropped into the Showcase to continue their tour of the US.
They bounced back to winning ways in their first game in the showcase against Seattle Sounders, with Peter Adejimi the day's hero as he scored the decisive winner.
With the win over Houston, Remo’s No Limits will play one more game in the showcase level and will look to sign off on a high.
Beyond cart away TCC awards
Meanwhile, while their colleagues are in the US fighting it out with some of the world’s best academies, others were back home sweeping through awards in the TCC League.
Beyond Limits were the biggest winners as the Lagos-based private football league, The Creative Championship, gave out awards to outstanding players from the 2023 season.
Limits boss, Ajibolade Olumide was named coach of the year after he led his team to a third consecutive TCC League title.
Other awards that the Ikenne side won included assists king, golden boot, won by the imperiously talented Onyebuchi Obasi and golden gloves.
Also, Beyond dominated the team of the season with no fewer than six players making it to the best eleven.
