‘Put Abraham in Galatasaray, he’d play better than Osimhen’ — African legend slams Super Eagles star
Cameroon international and former Besiktas forward Vincent Aboubakar has ignited a fresh storm in the Turkish Super Lig after boldly declaring that Victor Osimhen is not the best striker in Turkey.
His comments, made during an appearance on Ertem Şener’s YouTube show, have set social media buzzing and sparked fierce debate among Galatasaray, Besiktas, and Nigerian fans alike.
Aboubakar insists Abraham is the league’s most complete striker
Despite Osimhen’s €75 million move to Galatasaray, making him the most expensive player in Turkish football history, and his Golden Boot, Best Player and Best Goal triumphs last season, Aboubakar says he still places Tammy Abraham above him.
When asked to compare Osimhen, Abraham, Trabzonspor’s Paul Onuachu and Fenerbahçe’s Youssef En-Nesyri, Aboubakar answered without hesitation. “Based on the football they play, Tammy Abraham.
“Because he knows football well. The team needs to use the player well. If he can't score, you need to improve around him. Since Galatasaray works well, Osimhen scores goals. Put Abraham in Galatasaray. He’d score a lot. He’d play better than Osimhen.”
Aboubakar also questioned Osimhen’s overall game, saying, “Mauro Icardi plays good football. Osimhen just has goals. If you take away the goals, what else can he do?”
Osimhen under scrutiny as Super Lig competition intensifies
Osimhen’s league form has been uneven, with only three goals in ten matches so far, although his Champions League return, six goals in three games, remains exceptional.
Meanwhile, Onuachu tops the scoring chart with 11 goals, ahead of Eldor Shomurodov on 10, while En-Nesyri and Icardi sit on seven each. Abraham has scored five times in 14 outings.
Despite the criticism, Osimhen remains one of Africa’s biggest stars. He finished among the top three for the 2025 CAF African Footballer of the Year award.
The Galatasaray continues to be seen as Nigeria’s key figure ahead of AFCON 2025, where fans of the Super Eagles hope he can inspire a fourth continental title.
