Pogba was a late comer — Man Utd legend Rooney exposes Frenchman as he picks best ever teammate
Wayne Rooney has revealed his pick for the best teammate of his career, while also lifting the lid on some lesser-known habits inside the Manchester United dressing room during his time there.
The Red Devils legend didn’t hold back as he singled out Paul Pogba as a regular latecomer and named his ultimate on-pitch ally.
Rooney names Scholes and Ronaldo above the rest
Asked to pick the best player he ever played with, Rooney admitted the choice was difficult given the talent around him at both club and international level. Still, the former United captain narrowed it down quickly, placing two Old Trafford legends above the rest.
“There’s many great players I played with, but I think Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Scholes are the two, probably Scholes,” Rooney said.

Rooney also singled out Ji-Sung Park as the most underrated teammate he played alongside, praising the South Korean’s selfless contribution to United’s success. “Ji Sung Park. What he did for the team was incredible,” he added.
On leadership, Rooney pointed to figures both inside and outside United, naming “Steven Gerrard, Rio Ferdinand, Gary Neville” as the best leaders he encountered, while admitting both he and Sir Alex Ferguson were the “worst losers.”
Pogba singled out as frequent late comer
Rooney also shared lighter moments from his career, revealing which teammates were most likely to arrive late to team activities.
“There was a few. Paul Pogba was probably one, Luke Shaw as well, was either just on time or just late. But they weren’t late by long, just by a few minutes, which I didn’t really get,” Rooney revealed.
He went on to name Patrice Evra as the funniest teammate, while highlighting Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville as the best trainers he played with. “There’s no coincidence Giggs played on for as long as he did and Gaz [Neville] was the ultimate professional,” Rooney said.
Unsurprisingly, when asked which one player he would want beside him in a final, Rooney had no hesitation: “Ronaldo.”
After a career spanning 19 years and four clubs, clearly, his spell at Manchester United left the biggest imprint on him
