Nigerian athletes smile to the bank as FG rains cash bonuses on medalists
Nigeria's Ministry of Sports Development has initiated the process of paying camp allowances and bonuses to athletes and officials who secured medals for the nation at the 13th African Games in Ghana.
Diana-Mary Nsan, an aide to the sports minister John Owan Enoh, confirmed the commencement of the payment process on Friday.
Restored Trust and Confidence
Nsan highlighted that the commencement of payments has restored trust and confidence among the athletes.
She assured that those who won medals would also receive their respective bonuses, bringing relief to the athletes.
“Today, March 22, the athletes started receiving their camp allowances,” sports minister’s aide Diana-Mary Nsan said in a statement on Friday.
“A lot of athletes had doubts and fears but the trust and confidence has been restored."
“Athletes who won medals will also get their bonuses. Find attached bonuses for individual, doubles and team sports medal winners.”
Details of Bonus Structure
The attached statement outlined the bonus structure for individual, doubles, and team sports medal winners.
Individual gold, silver, and bronze medalists are set to receive $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000 respectively, while similar rewards are allocated to doubles and team sports winners based on their achievements.
Coaches whose athletes or teams clinched medals will also be rewarded. They will receive bonuses of $5,000, $2,500, and $1,500 for coaching gold, silver, and bronze medalists, respectively, acknowledging their contributions to the athletes' success.
Team Nigeria had a very strong performance at the games, bringing home a total of 114 medals. Securing 43 gold, 32 silver, and 39 bronze medals is a true accomplishment, showcasing their talent and dedication.
