Newcastle interested in ambitious move for Barcelona star

Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele will have just one year on his contract at the end of this season and his deal includes a €50m release clause that becomes active in the summer.

Dembele moved to Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund in 2017 in a big money deal but his career in Spain has been plagued by numerous injuries.

Indeed, the Frenchman has played just 120 La Liga games for Barca in close to six full seasons and has been sidelined with a hamstring issue since late January.

According to 90min, Newcastle have made contact with the player's camp to understand the situation and gauge several factors surrounding a possible move.

Despite spending heavily on striker Alexander Isak last summer, Champions League qualification could increase Newcastle's appetite for more top-level signings and while it is an ambitious move, Ousmane Dembele certainty fits the bill.

With Messi's possible return to Barcelona becoming more of a reality with each passing day, the report suggests Dembele could be one of those allowed to leave the club. 

Xavi rates Dembele very highly but cutting ties will make a ton of sense from a financial standpoint.

Meanwhile, Barcelona boss Xavi will be delighted to welcome back three key players ahead of this weekend's clash with Atletico Madrid.

The Blaugrana will welcome Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, and Ousmane Dembele back into their fold as the trio resume training ahead of the match at Camp Nou.
