New favourites emerge for vacant Chelsea job after Potter departure
Following the departure of Graham Potter, Chelsea have already identified potential replacements for the English manager as they aim to finish the season on a high.
Chelsea fire Potter after awful form
Potter was fired after the squad consistently underperformed and fell to 11th on the Premier League table despite major investments in the squad.
Chelsea spent €611.49 million on new players in the 2022/23 season, including €329.50 million under Potter, but the investments did not pan out as the Blues continued to struggle under the ex-Brighton manager, leading to his departure from the club.
Nagelsmann favourite for Chelsea job
Following Potter’s exit, Chelsea have identified former Bayern Munich manager Jullian Nagelsmann as the prime target to take over from Potter, with other secondary targets waiting in the wings if they are unable to seal a deal for the German coach

Nagelsmann became available after being replaced at Bayern Munich by former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel and has already been contacted by the Blues for the vacant position.
It is believed that Nagelsmann’s recent availability pushed the Chelsea hierarchy to act against Potter as they sought to move ahead of clubs like Real Madrid and Tottenham to secure the German manager’s signature.
Chelsea consider Nagelsmann alternative
In case Chelsea fail to land Nagelsmann, they could also make a move for former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain Mauricio Pochettino, who is available on the free market.
Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim’s recent win over Chelsea’s London neighbours Arsenal in the UEFA Europa League has also put him on the Blues' radar, and the Portuguese manager is also on the shortlist for the Chelsea job.
