New Champions emerge at Ogun Boxing Hall of Fame
New Champions has emerged at the 13th Ogun Boxing Hall of Fame as the Finance Minister, Wale Edun rates the event high.
In the men's 71kg weight category, Oladimeji Solanke defeated Kasali Tajudeen with a 5-0 unanimous decision to win the gold medal and cash prize, while Qudus Adebayo outpunched Tawo Razaq with a 2-1 split decision to earn the cash prize.
Qudus Adeniran won a unanimous decision over Sulaimon Onabanjo in the 44kg male category; Oluwaseun Bankole won a technical decision over Sarah Adepoju in the 46kg female category after both boxers were level on points; and Ayomide Akinsanya also won a unanimous decision against Ibrahim Gafar.
Edun Expressing delight with the calibre of boxers in the 13th Ogun Boxing Hall of Fame has highlighted the necessity for well-meaning individuals to help athletes at the grassroots levels.
The minister who was represented by the coordinator, Boxing Hall of Fame, Mr. David Muhammed at the 13th monthly Boxing show was organized at the Alake Sports Complex in Ijeja, Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.
He indicated that the competition's goal was to develop talents and nurture them to stardom.
Meanwhile, the Ogun state government has the Ogun Boxing Hall of Fame championship was touted as an excellent platform for preparing the state's athletes for the next National Sports Festival as well as discovering fresh talents that will be groomed to replace the state's aged boxers.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youths and Sports, Dr. Qudus Yusuf noted that the competition was also being utilized to test run facilities for the Games' hosting in 2024.
He expressed confidence in the state's willingness to prepare its athletes with a series of events to keep them in condition, as well as to provide the necessary facilities for the festival's successful hosting next year.
