Monaco 1-0 Galatasaray: Victor Osimhen’s frustrated coach upset after Champions League loss
Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk has made his feelings known after the Lions suffered another painful defeat in the Champions League.
Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen was caged as Monaco sealed a narrow 1-0 defeat to hand Galatasaray back-to-back defeats in the competition on Tuesday night.
Monaco vs Galatasaray: Match brief
Super Eagles main man Osimhen was caged and silenced for the duration of the game by a water-tight Monaco defence.
After the narrow defeat to Union Saint-Gilloise, the last time without Osimhen, the Turkish champions were hoping to bounce back to winning ways with their Nigerian star back in the team.
However, despite featuring from start to finish, the 26-year-old former African player of the year was limited in his impact and was outshone by another player of Nigerian descent.
After a goalless first half, Monaco quickly took control of the game when Folarin Balogun, the former Arsenal man, scored to give the home side, who had missed an earlier penalty, a deserved lead.

Galatasaray responded well to going a goal behind and pressed in search of the equaliser but Monaco’s defence handled whatever tricks they had led by Osimhen.
In the end, the Ligue 1 side held on for a big win which took them level on points with their visitors from Turkey, who dropped to 17th on the table in the Champions League.
Gala coach reacts
Following another defeat in the competition, Galatasaray’s coach was nothing but pleased with the outcome against Monaco.
Speaking to UEFA in his post-match reaction, Buruk admitted that the Lions are upset with the loss.
“ "Losing this match upsets us,” he stated. “We have nine points and two matches left. We will do everything we can to reach our objectives."
Speaking further, he added, "We played in a way befitting of our fans in the first half, but the second half didn't go as we wanted. We will be much better in the match against Atlético de Madrid."
