It is Alcaraz's tenth ATP title and fourth title this year in six tournaments, making him the most in-form player in the ATP circuit this season.
Alcaraz has now become the second man (after Rafael Nadal) to defend the Madrid Open title, and the sixth player after Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, and Andy Murray to win the Madrid Open title on multiple occasions.
The Spaniard, who turned 20 days ago, has won his fourth title in an ATP-1000 event - Only Nadal (9) has won more such titles before turning 21.
For Struff, he became the first lucky loser to reach a Masters final in Madrid. He’s living, walking, breathing proof that no matter your age, you can beat the odds and make your dreams count.
Speaking on his win, Alcaraz had some kind words for Struff and his team.
“Congrats to Jan and your team. I know you were dealing with some problems and injuries. You missed a lot of the season. Doing a great result, great job with your team. It’s amazing & great to have you back. I wish you all the best in the future.”
