'Media and my YouTube content is not a distraction' - Alex Iwobi fires back at critics ahead of Morocco clash
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has firmly shut down criticism surrounding his off-field activities during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 in Morocco.
The Fulham midfielder has completed the most line-breaking passes in the tournament, including 36 in the knockout stages alone.
Off the pitch, he's been vocal and active, running an AFCON Diary series on YouTube and crediting the team's success to unity and brotherhood.
What Iwobi said
The Fulham star insists that his media engagements and YouTube content creation have no impact on his focus or performance on the pitch.
Speaking during a pre-match press conference ahead of Nigeria’s highly anticipated semi-final clash against host nation Morocco, Iwobi addressed the growing online debate questioning whether his digital presence was a distraction at such a crucial stage of the tournament.
“Media and my YouTube content is not a distraction,” Iwobi said confidently at the podium.
He added, "I’m enjoying YouTube and hope everyone else is too, as it gives a true glimpse of what Nigeria is really like. If the players are enjoying it, then I hope the coaches will allow me to participate as well. One thing I want to address is that some people call it a distraction when we’re on the pitch and ready to compete, but I believe it’s not a distraction at all."
