With a dominant 3-0 win over Athletic Club in the semifinal first leg, the Red Devils have one foot firmly planted in the final, and the young winger is dreaming of even bigger things.
Garnacho aims for the big titles
In a recent interview with the club’s media, Garnacho admitted that while lifting the Europa League would be special, it doesn't erase the disappointment of a lacklustre league campaign.
The Argentine winger said, “It’s very important to be in the Champions League. But as Kobbie [Mainoo] said, it won’t be a successful season if we win the Europa League, because in the league we are bad.”
Still, the Argentine was clear about the squad’s ambitions, which he says are “To win a trophy and play in the Champions League, we will try to go all the way.
“The big titles are the Premier League and the Champions League, and we want to fight for those trophies. It will take time, but we'll try as soon as possible.”
Red Devils roll over Bilbao in semifinal first leg
Manchester United’s statement performance against Athletic Club showed just how serious they are about competing in the Champions League next season.
Casemiro opened the scoring before Bruno Fernandes stole the spotlight with two quick goals, including one from the penalty spot following a controversial call by VAR.
Athletic Club, playing without star man Oihan Sancet, looked toothless up front and finished the game with 10 men after a red card just before half-time.
The second leg at Old Trafford is still to come, but Garnacho and company already have one eye on the Champions League.
