Man United vs Bournemouth - Amad heads to AFCON with smiles after scoring, but not enough for the Red Devils in dramatic draw
The Red Devils head into the game following their comfortable victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.
Ruben Amorim’s team were hoping to get a win, seeing that they were going to lose three key players, following the AFCON competition.
However, they failed to build on their confidence as the Cherries held the Red Devils to a remarkable 4-4 draw.
As it happened
Manchester United made one change to the side that won 4-1 at Wolves in their last Premier League outing a week ago. Noussair Mazraoui (Morocco) is unavailable due to the Africa Cup of Nations, so Leny Yoro starts, but Bryan Mbeumo (Cameroon) and Amad Diallo (Ivory Coast) have been cleared to play.
Meanwhile, Bournemouth made one change to the side that drew 0-0 against Chelsea, with Tyler Adams coming in for Alex Scott, as reported by BBC.
The Red Devils' first 15 minutes of pressure paid off as Amad, who is set for AFCON after the game, put Amorim's men in the lead.
Immediately after Man United’s early goal, Bournemouth took control of the game and piled pressure on the Red Devils' backline and got the equaliser after Antoine Semenyo burst into the box and slammed a low shot off the base of the far post to beat the keeper.
However, a few minutes before the halftime break, Casemiro restored Man United’s lead, having headed Bruno Fernandes’ corner kick in.
The home team looked confident heading into the second half, but the visitors turned it around with two quick goals from Evanilson and Marcus Tavernier to make it 3-2.
Amorim’s men then took charge of the momentum and scored successively from Fernandes and Matheus Cunha to take the lead, but just as they were entering stoppage time, Junior Kroupi, who came in as a substitute, restored parity.
The game ended in a dramatic 4-4 draw, with only Amad having a smile on his face as he headed for AFCON after scoring a goal.
